So overall, great remake, especially considering how few people contributed to it, but not a good game.įor me there were alot of gameplay issues, to begin with, its pretty difficult to run at high settings, i understand its a pretty game, but my laptop can consistently run ps4 ports pretty well, but dies with this game, for a playable experience i have to turn almost everything down, including draw distance, making mach speed sections really ugly, i understand this happens because they are using the unity engine as it draws a lot more power than a proprietary engine, but it affects my gameplay nonetheless. I can find enjoyment in a lot of the set pieces and level specific mechanics as there’s a lot of unique ideas with the presentation in this game, but I don’t think the core gameplay is well designed at all. You can’t really build up any good speed without being in one of the dedicated sections for it, you always feel weightless and floaty in the air, the camera is annoying to deal with when fighting enemies, switching characters can be fun sometimes, like with Tails in Wave Ocean, but often just slows down the pace even more, the combat feels pointless as the enemies barely do anything to attack you and you just spam until the enemies die, the vehicles control awkwardly which usually isn’t a problem but there’s some parts which require precision like in White Acropolis and it’s just frustrating, and most of the levels feel automated in some parts, and extremely simple in others. With that said, I just can’t bring myself to enjoy playing 06, even without paying attention to the story and with everything working as intended. It’s a really great remake and I like a lot of the changes they made to the game. While i love p06 and think its an improvment over the origional it has not given me a higher opinion of the origional game and never will. 06 is one of the worst games i have ever played and p06 (while remaking the only parts of the game I like, the sonic and shadow levels) the game does not fix the many other problems with 06 as a game. Still will have the terrible hubs, plot holes, bad characterization/writing, awful design in silvers levels, obvious design issues mistakes and lack of direction in shadows later levels, need i say more. Sonic 2006 failed for being an unfinished technical mess but the potential was there.
It has everything i wanted: a decent story, multiple playable characters, adventure gameplay and villains that actually feel like a threat. 4hIf it gets finished i'm officially calling it my favorite Sonic game.It's great!
